Welcome to Electsolve

Loss Analysis & Recovery System (LARS)

A unique application of the ElectSolve MDM is Loss Analysis Reporting System (LARS).  LARS provides a comprehensive view of line loss by systematically reconciling wholesale power purchase records with power purchase sales down to the substation and individual feeder circuit.  This allows the utility to pinpoint where losses are occurring and where operational corrections can be made to recover revenue and increase the efficiency of the distribution network.

LARS is a Software Suite of applications that utilizes data stored in the MDM data repository to analyze data from a variety of utility systems and data sources.  LARS uses a comprehensive and tactical methodology and proprietary algorithms to report problem areas, pinpointing where operationally, corrections can be made to reduce system line losses and recover revenue.  Emphasis is on data analysis, which explains geographically, where losses are and how they are distributed.  LARS is able to accurately reconcile Wholesale Kwh purchases to Retail Kwh sales using a wide variety of data sources available to it from many different utility operations systems and platforms within the typical utility. This reporting enables the utility to rank line losses by highest loss substations to lowest loss substation and within each substation, rank the highest loss feeders to the lowest loss feeders.

LARS provides utilities a platform to:

  • Develop a comprehensive view of the line loss problem by systematically reconciling wholesale power purchase records with power purchase sales down to the substation and feeder line.
  • Detail geographically where losses are and how they are distributed.
  • Pinpoint where operational corrections can be made to reduce losses and recover revenue.
  • Coordinate revenue recovery efforts by Customer Service, Billing, Meter Reading, and Linemen with comprehensive, accurate reporting of  "before and after" corrections on a monthly basis
  • Help your utility launch a distribution line loss management program that can pay for itself through an all-employee, utility-wide program initiative.

LARS provides accurate “before and after” analysis of distribution system losses by substation & feeder in order to provide management with a loss reduction strategy that enables faster revenue recovery and recognition of increased efficiencies.  The result is a complete picture of system losses incorporating all available data sources within the utility.

Loss Analysis Reporting System (LARS) System will help achieve the following:

  • Collect, track and analyze the meter data from all available data sources to develop a comprehensive view of the line loss problem
  • Integrate data from all meters along with interfaces to customer information system database.
  • Incorporate meter data streams with substation interval data to reconcile and report losses and revenue “leakage”
  • Reconcile end-customer electricity sales back to each feeder and substation
  • Reconcile substation interval data back to the wholesale invoicing data
  • Continues to track distribution system performance to maintain low loss margins over time.

 Benefits of LARS are:

  • Reduce Losses
  • Recover Revenue
  • Defer Rate Increases
  • One revenue recovery "find" can potentially pay for entire system investment
  • Benefits grow exponentially when compounded over time

Features include:

  • Accurately reconcile wholesale Kwh purchases to Retail Kwh sales on a monthly basis
  • Understand where revenue leakage occurs
  • Enable targeted corrections to reduce losses
  • Demonstrates due diligence to be energy efficient and keep energy cost as low as possible More accurately budget work plan dollars to be spent cost effectively in targeted areas
